Finally Repel Mosquitos and Smell Great! - Kim Barber, Re/max Puerto Penasco, Mexico

Back in the "olden days", work was plentiful and cash was less so. People improvised when they couldn't afford some of the unnecessary "extras". Nice women pinched their cheeks, rather than daring to apply rouge. And instead of perfume, it wasn't uncommon for a woman to dab some vanilla on her pulse points before heading out for a social engagement.

I had heard of this years ago (probably from watching "Little House on the Prarie"), and was reminded of it a couple of years ago I ran into an old acquaintance. We greeted with hugs and I noticed that she smelled great. I asked her what she was wearing and she replied simply, vanilla. There were a number of vanilla colognes on the market at the time, and I asked her which one. She replied, just pure vanilla extract.

Well I recently learned another advantage of using vanilla as perfume - it repels mosquitos! No more stinky spray. Now you can have it all. Smell great, repel mosquitos, show your concern for the environment and save money!

Now, the other thing you could do, is move somewhere, where the mosquitos aren't biting, somewhere like ....Puerto Penasco, Mexico!

It's something I haven't really given much thought to since I moved to Rocky Point, bee stings. They're vital to life and who isn't grateful for them. But they've ruined more than one summer day.

Do wear light colored clothing, don't wear perfume, and use your head - don't provoke bees. But, if, despite your best efforts, you get stung. Don't tweeze the stinger out, as you could squeeze more poison into the wound. Instead, scrape the stinger out. Wash with soap and water, and then follow up with ice, topical anaesthetic and or an OTC product for pain.

Then, consider when is the last time you had a tetanus shot? Bees can carry tetanus - who'd have thought? Better to get that tetanus shot before you get stung. And maybe consider moving somewhere, where bee stings aren't a problem, some where like...... Puerto Penasco!
